February 2017 During the month of January the children in the classroom focused on achieving the goals that they set for themselves this school year. We continued to welcome our outside readers every Tuesday as they continue reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl, along with many other fascinating stories related to our units of study. The children who attend HEDP on Fridays were invited to ice skate with the older children at Larz Anderson rink. The skating has been great fun for those who chose to participate! Those who stay behind have had the opportunity to participate in planning special activities such as making their own wands out of chopsticks and preparing tacos (Yum!) to enjoy with the entire group upon their return from ice skating. During the month of February the children are going to continue to accomplish their goals with help from the rest of the group and the teachers. We will be making homemade ice cream on Groundhog day in hope that the groundhog sees his shadow and Spring is on the way! Later in the month the children will have the opportunity to mix ingredients to create a temporary tattoo mixture. With parent permission, the children will use their imaginations and artistic skills to apply temporary tattoos to their hands and arms. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with the outside readers completing “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by enjoying chocolate dipped fruit sticks (Yum again!) Finally, please check out our “Friend-ship” wall that will be installed during the month as the children discuss and identify ways that they demonstrate friendship Each child will create a “friend-ship” to be displayed in the cafeteria on our wall. Please make sure that as the weather changes that children are dressing appropriately because we always go outside to enjoy some fresh air. Please make sure you sign your child out each and every day! We would like to thank the families that donated items to our classroom and the program.
