Professional Development & First Aid/CPR

Each full-time teacher is asked to complete at least 20 hours of approved training per year. The Brookline Extended Day Association (BEDA) provides workshops on a monthly basis that meet training criteria. Other organizations also offer workshops that will meet this requirement. Staff are encouraged to make use of their professional days. Teachers working less than full-time will find their required training hours detailed in their contract.
P.Q. Registry
Educators working in programs serving children from birth through school age, regardless of setting, can create an individual educator profile in the PQ Registry. EEC encourages all educators to take advantage of the PQ Registry, including those who work in public preschools and other programs that are not subject to EEC licensure.

Mandated Reporter Training Course
While anyone who suspects a child is being maltreated can and should file a 51A Report with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families ("DCF"), early childhood professionals as mandated reporters are required by law to do so.

To help ensure the health and safety of children in child care, the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) requires all educators to complete training in First Aid and CPR.
